Why Should You Start Your Own Affiliate Program

You are probably well acquainted with affiliate programs, hence your interest with this article. You may have been, or perhaps still are, an affiliate for several successful programs and you know the system can be lucrative, that’s why you’re contemplating on establishing your own affiliate program for some of the products you want to sell.

Having your own affiliate program would guarantee that you will have several channels of promotion. After all, each affiliate would be an advertising vehicle for your products. Of course, wooing these affiliates, and keeping them happy, nneds to be one of your primary concerns. They are the key to your affiliate program’s success.

Having several advertisement channels, you can rest assured that your products will get a lot of exposure. You won’t have to worry about traffic as much, as your affiliates will generate visitors for your sales page.

To have your own affiliate program requires that you have a system which will be capable of the following:

  • Subscribing affiliates and storing their contact details
  • Generating affiliate links, preferably to any given page, rather than specific ones
  • Tracking campaigns for affiliates and compiling the sales they have referred
  • Providing support for the affiliates in terms of guidance, motivation and technical matters
  • Integrating the program with an autoresponder sequence from a different provider
  • Calculating payments due for the affiliates and distributing the same
  • Processing transactions with the customers referred by the affiliates
  • Ideally, delivering the products automatically upon payment. However, you could always to this manually
  • The key to satisfying affiliates is reporting.  I know that I am always happier with a program where I can add campaigns, and find out not only how many sales, but numbers of visitors referred, specific date ranges, signups and more.

There are two distinct ways by which you could start your own affiliate program.

The first is to enrol in an existing affiliate program network. These networks already have a system that helps you acquire affiliates, track their movements and campaigns, and facilitates the processes of selling and pre-selling. Additionally, they have their own payment processors and they will take care of the transactions themselves. However, the disadvantage of hooking up with these networks is that they take away a big chunk of your sales pie, between 25 and 60%, which you could offer to your affiliates otherwise.

The most popular and well-established of these networks are Clickbank and Commission Junction. If you sift through their respective sites, you’ll see that they are capable of meeting your expectations, and they have excellent track records to back up their claims.

The second way by which you could start your own affiliate program is by creating your own system. There are many affiliate program packages available in the market, and some of them offer excellent features that include the necessities we have tackled above.

Regardless of which method you choose, starting an affiliate program can be easy, but achieving and maintaining its success entails some hard work, dedication and a little creativity. Here are some things you need to consider to make your affiliate program triumph over any adversity:

  • Always be willing to provide support for your affiliates. If they need some coaching, take time out to show them the ropes. Their success is your success, after all.
  • Build relationships. Your affiliates are part of your network. They will not only sell your products, they can be potential customers as well.
  • Treat them well and they will be faithful to you. They are boths assets and partners. Show them that they are trusted and they will give you their best.
  • Make it easy for them to reach you. You will work as a team, and communication will be very important.
  • Always encourage them to succeed. Sometimes, all they need is some form of acknowledgment that their efforts are being appreciated. Indeed, it’s not always about the commission.

Practicing these philosophies fosters a synergetic environment that can only help fuel your affiliate program to great heights!
